We searched all over town for a place to eat for dinner. It was mind boggling how around Christmas, almost every restaurant and cafe in town was completely booked out for the night. We finally settled for Indigo Moon Cafe. They looked like they were busy too but they did offer us a table. Next time we’re back in the USA, we’re definitely making all our reservations at least a few weeks before we arrive.
From my vague recollection, it was a cosy cafe/restaurant on a main street. Inside was warm and toasty and relaxed and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
We decided to share a starter since it was getting quite late and we’re not very big dinner eaters. Crab cakes seem to be very popular in the USA and we loved them so it was no surprise that we went with their Blue Crab Cakes with chilli lime sauce. It was sublime. The chilli lime sauce gives the crab cakes a refreshing tangy kick which is perfect to start off the night.
I didn’t feel like having anything too heavy that night so I went with pasta. I love my carbs and anything with tomatoes in it. I had their Fettuccine, Jumbo White Shrimp, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, white wine lemon sauce sans parmesan because I can’t stand the stuff and it was perfect! You know, I’ve never actually tried artichoke hearts in my life. I’ve seen them being used in all those cooking shows that are all the rage on tv now but I don’t really know how to cook them and you rarely ever see them on the menu back home. There is not much taste to them but with the pasta, I thought it was a good vegetable alternative.
Ryan decided to try their Aged New York Steak with blue cheese butter, onion rings and mashed Yukon Gold. Anything with onion rings, that boy. Lolz, we actually can get them at Burger King back home but it ain’t the same you know. It’s an American thing! He liked his steak ok too. It was a lil more well done than medium but it was still nice. And the blue cheese was divine!
We left feeling perfectly sated after the meal, ready to tuck in for the night at our bnb but lo and behold, we got back and they left cookies and milk for us to munch on before bed. Talk about being spoilt!! They were homemade cookies as well. We definitely gained a couple of kilos that night – cookie monster style!
