I’ll be honest – our sole reason for stopping over in Portland was really the shopping. When I found out that Oregon had zilch sales tax and it was between Seattle and San Francisco, it was a no brainer that we do our shopping there and boy, did I shop to my hearts content. Zero sales tax will do that to you!
Obviously, I wasn’t too fussed about where we ate while we were there so the hubs took over in that department and he picked Le Pigeon. It’s French, cosy and communal. The seating, that is. It took me a while to get over having to sit next to strangers during dinner who might be listening in to our conversations but hey, we might be listening in to their conversations too so tit for tat eh?
Anyway, the food here was pretty incredible. We got their five course degustation and it was just the right amount for the two of us – proof that we are quite small eaters! We’ve moved out of our digs temporarily and the menu is all packed up in one of our boxes but I remember loving the foie gras appetizer, the king fish dish and their star dish, the foie gras profiteroles dessert.
We ended up chatting to our dining neighbors too and they were from out of town, just like us! We raved about our meals and they told us about the Color Run that they were taking part in the next day in the city and were curious about what drew us to Portland. Well, you know it was shopping before we had our meal at Le Pigeon. Now it’s the shopping and the food! If we could go back, we’ll be there in a heartbeat!
