We went a-eating at The Sportsman!! I had been looking forward to this day since the last time we were in the UK so that is what, two years ago? The pop-in-law (then future) pointed out the Sportsman on the way back from visiting castles for the day and I vowed to myself that we’d be checking that place out on our next trip.
Eating our way from Dubai to Brighton and now Seasalter, it wasn’t surprising that we felt like total gluttons 4 days into our trip. We could feel the weight piling on too, with no form of exercise in sight except walking around town most days.
The Sportsman was to be our most indulgent meal ever so we decided that we would work for it by walking the 2 hours from Whitstable to Seasalter in windy weather. I was very proud of myself seeing as my level of fitness is in fact non-existent and I managed to make it there relatively unscatched! It was one very slow and easy walk!
There wasn’t any doubt that we were about to have a fabulous meal after reading rave reviews from UK food blogs like Essex Eating, Nordic Nibbler and Bristol Bites (yup, I did my research). So here we are, about to have fabulous food!
Best pork scratchings I’ve ever had! Okay, it’s the only pork scratchings I’ve ever tried but they were so good that we went to the shops to get more. I know that they’re so not the same seeing that these are home made but I thought that they might be a close substitute. We got those packet ones from Tesco and they were horrible!! Yakkity yuck!! I hated them… it tasted like air freezed fat mostly.
It was a fabulous meal – even better than our splurge at Joel Robuchon. Each dish was thought out with care and we were given more than enough time to savor and enjoy our meal. It was a totally different experience to Joel Robuchon we had to finish just as many courses in half that time.
I know I shall be looking forward to catching up with family every time we go back to the UK but I now have something else to look forward to. How lucky am I that the parents-in-law live in Whitstable. 🙂
